Trefoil Factor 3

Trefoil factor 3 (TFF3) or intestinal trefoil factor, belongs to a small family of three mucin-associated peptides (TFF1, TFF2, and TFF3). TFF3 exists in a 60-amino acid monomeric form (6.7 kDa) and a 118-amino acid dimeric form (13.1 kDa). Under normal conditions TFF3 is expressed by goblet cells of the intestine and the colon. TFF3 expression was found in human respiratory tract, human goblet cells, and in human salivary gland. In addition, TFF3 peptide was found in human hypothalamus. Elevation of TFF3 in plasma and urine has been associated with certain types of kidney damage.
