P-Selectin

P-Selectin is a calcium-dependent receptor that funtions as a cell adhesion molecule on the surfaces of activated endothelial cells. It binds to carbohydrates on neutrophils and monocytes. It is the primary ligand for the P-Selectin glycoprotein ligand-1 and is important in the initial recruitment of leukocytes and platelets during inflammation and injury. P-Selectin has been implicated in the metastasis of cancer by aiding the invasion of cancer cells into the blood.
