Matrix Metalloproteinase-7 (MMP-7), also known as Matrilysin, activates procollagenase and degrades casein, gelatins of types I, III, IV, and V, and fibronectin. It is involved in wound healing and is the smallest member of the MMP-family and is a potential prognostic biomarker of fibrosis for idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF).
