Monocyte Chemotactic Protein 1 MSD

Monocyte Chemotactic Protein 1 (MCP-1; CCL2) plays a role in the recruitment of monocytes to sites of injury and infection. MCP-1 has been found in the joints of people with rheumatoid arthritis where it may serve to recruit macrophages and perpetuate the inflammation in the joints. MCP-1 is also elevated in the urine of lupus patients as a sign of inflammation of the kidney. MCP-1 has also been called small inducible cytokine A2 (SCYA2) and monocyte chemotactic and activating factor (MCAF).
