Interleukin-18 (IL-18) is a proinflammatory cytokine that belongs to the IL-1 superfamily. Also known as interferon-gamma inducing factor, IL-18 is produced by macrophages and other cells. IL-18 binds to its receptor and stimulates natural killer and T-cells to release interferon-gamma. It may have a role in certain inflammatory disorders and Alzheimer?s disease.
