Fatty Acid-Binding Protein, intestinal
Fatty Acid-Binding Protein 2 (I-FABP) is a protein encoded by the FABP2 gene that binds saturated long-chain fatty acids. I-FABP is specifically and abundantly present in epithelial cells of the small intestine, higher I-FABP concentrations indicate mucosal damage of the small intestine. This gene has a polymorphism that is associated with increased fat oxidation and insulin resistance.
