Growth/differentiation factor 15

Growth/differentiation factor 15

GDF-15 belongs to the TGF beta superfamily and has a role in inflammatory and apoptotic pathways. Serum GDF-15 has been positively correlated with progression of several tumor types, including certain colorectal, pancreatic, and prostate cancers. GDF-15 is also upregulated by cardiovascular events triggering oxidative stress, including atherosclerosis. Increased circulating GDF-15 concentrations have been linked to an enhanced risk of future adverse cardiovascular events.
