Decorin
Decorin is a ubiquitous pericellular matrix proteoglycan. It belongs to the small leucine-rich proteoglycan (SLRP) family, and is produced mainly by cells of mesenchymal origin. It consists of a core protein covalently linked to a glycosaminoglycan chain which is either chondroitin or dermatan sulfate. Decorin is known to interact with fibronectin, TGF-?, and collagen types I and II. It plays various roles in matrix assembly, cell adhesion, cell migration, and growth. Decorin is known to adversely affect the growth of various cancer types by downregulating the activity of receptors involved in cell growth and survival and by sequestering TGF-? through binding.
