Carbonic anhydrase 9
Carbonic Anhydrase 9 (CA-9) is a transmembrane enzyme expressed primarily in carcinoma cells and is one of the best markers for hypoxia and renal cell carcinoma. It catalyzes the reversible hydration of carbon dioxide, which is fundamental to many processes such as respiration, renal tubular acidification, and bone resorption. CA-9 is upregulated in many types of tumors including renal cell carcinoma, non-small cell lung carcinoma, ovarian cancer, breast cancer, and cervical cancer.
