Amphiregulin

Amphiregulin (AR) is a bifunctional growth-modulating glycoprotein and member of the EGF family of cytokines that signals as a juxtacrine, autocrine, and paracrine mitogen for fibroblasts, astrocytes, Schwann cells, and tumor cells. It is involved in oocyte maturation, bone and mammary gland development, and can be an important driver of breast cancer, in addition to various other cancers. It is also induced in inflammation, modulated immunity, is pro-fibrogenic has been linked to liver fibrosis, psoriasis, rheumatoid arthritis, and asthma.
