Eotaxin MSD
Eotaxin-1 (CCL11) is a chemokine and central mediator of eosinophilic inflammation. It is secreted by epithelial cells, fibroblasts, endothelial cells, and alveolar macrophages, typically in response to Th2 cytokines such as IL-4 and IL-13, with additional regulation by TNF-a and IL-5. Acting through CCR3?a receptor expressed on eosinophils, basophils, mast cells, and Th2 lymphocytes?eotaxin-1 potently induces eosinophil chemotaxis, activation, and degranulation. Eotaxin-1 is among the earliest chemokines induced during inflammation, rapidly initiating eosinophil recruitment and enhancing lipid mediator. These mechanisms contribute to tissue inflammation and remodeling in asthma, allergic rhinitis, and atopic dermatitis. Beyond allergy, elevated circulating eotaxin-1 has been associated with neuroinflammation, age-related cognitive decline, and chronic inflammatory conditions, broadening its biomarker relevance.
